Woodley Concert Band
WCB Minitour to Stratford-Upon-Avon, July 2023

Happy 40th Birthday to Us!

Wednesday, 22nd October 2014

Well, what an evening that was! Last Saturday saw Woodley Concert Band marking 40 years of community music-making with a fantastic celebration concert at Bearwood Theatre. The 350-seat auditorium was filled to capacity and the band was also honoured to have the Mayor of Wokingham, Cllr UllaKarin Clark, and the Mayor of Woodley, Cllr Brian Franklin, in the audience.

Commencing with Julius Fučík’s well-known Florentiner March, the evening’s programme covered a wide range of popular music including Riverdance, Pirates of the Caribbean, Bohemian Rhapsody, the fourth movement of Holst’s Second Suite in F and the Adagio from Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, played beautifully by principal trumpet Gregor Spowart. The evening also featured a slideshow of highlights from the band’s archive and the world premiere of Philip Sparke’s Prelude to a Pageant, commissioned specially by WCB to mark the band’s 40th birthday.

If you came to the concert, thank you for your support for WCB – we really appreciate it and look forward to seeing you for our future concerts – you can find a complete list of where the band will be performing in the coming months here.

There are photos from the concert in the gallery here.
